Jamie Lumley Counselling, Moray, Scotland for bereavement, grief and depression

What to Expect

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel like a big decision, so our first meeting is simply an opportunity to talk. We'll explore what's brought you to counselling, what you're hoping for, and I'll explain how I work. It's also a chance for you to ask any questions and decide whether it feels like the right fit for you.

If you choose to continue, we would usually meet once a week, as regular sessions tend to offer the best opportunity for steady progress. That said, counselling is always your choice. You decide when you'd like to finish or if you'd prefer to take a break. While everyone's journey is different, many people find that starting with around six sessions gives them the time and space to begin exploring things in a meaningful way.

Counselling often focuses on what's happening in your life right now and how it's affecting you. Psychotherapy can also involve looking more deeply at past experiences, helping you understand patterns and work through issues that may still be influencing your life today. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you and focus on what feels most helpful.

I'm a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. Everything we discuss is treated with care and respect, and your privacy is very important to me. Your personal information and the conversations we have remain confidential.

I work from a person-centred approach, which means I won't tell you what you should do or offer advice. Instead, I'll provide a safe, supportive space where we can work together to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. If I feel another approach or specialist service would better meet your needs, I'll always discuss this with you and help you find the right support.
